How To Go To The Super Bowl for Free

Fun fact: I've been to the Superbowl three times, but never paid for a Superbowl ticket... What?

Well, you see at the time (pre-Pandemic), there were many companies that provided services to the Superbowl, and these companies needed people to work game day. In exchange for volunteering your time or expertise on game day (the 6-8 hours leading up to the game), you got a pass into the stadium.

My husband, per usual, "knew a guy" who got one of these coveted volunteer spots, and our guy, got our names on the roster.

Our expertise? Sales.

For three years in a row, before the big game, our group slung the Official Commemorative Game-Day Programs for $20 a pop, and were the highest grossing sales team in the company, selling $10Ks of programs more than the next best group. Our tactics?

1) Product Placement - We were the first vendor you ran into when you entered the stadium. Wallets were hot and ready for spending.

2) Great Messaging - "Get your ice cold........ programs!" always got people to stop, giggle, and give us the time of day to show off what we were selling.

3) Highest Average Order Volume - Once we'd hooked them, we reminded them of their children, loved ones, and friends back home who'd certainly love having a piece of the game back home, and what better souvenir than this? It traveled well, was a collectible, plus gave you something to thumb through before the big game.

We sold our tails off, and year after year, we were invited back (that is, until the company lost it's official distribution deal).

Here's my recipe for success to getting great deals like this in life and sales:

  • 1 part - Believe in The Third Door. Most people see these options for getting a ticket to the Superbowl: 1) pay for a ticket, or 2) become a VIP and have a ticket gifted to you. Very few ever consider there could be a third option, but just believing the third option exists makes you 10x more likely to find it.

  • 1 part - Have an Inside Man. You'll always go further, faster with a champion helping move your name to the top of the list and advocating for you

  • 1 part - Execute. When someone else's reputation is on the line, be a good steward of their reputation and trust. Have a game plan, execute the plan, and be an absolute delight to work with. Get them the wins they want, and they'll help you win in return.
