Madison’s Marinara Sauce

Madison Ruggieri is one of the first people I ever reached out to about coming on my pod after I discovered her incredible line of skincare products, OneKind, I’ve been an addict ever since. I wrote about my skincare routines extensively, here, but the long and the short of it is that OneKind’s dream cream, day cream, eye cream, and acid drops have been a staple in my routine for literally YEARS now. I’ve been on subscription with them since ~2020 and I've still yet to find a better product.

When Madison and her brother started the brand, their vision was “La Mer, but at accessible consumer prices.” A skincare brand that was an everyday luxury, but delivered on insanely good ingredients and results for its users, while being an attainable price point.

AND LET ME TELL YOU… They delivered!

When I had my daughter, Charlie, I had intended to pull together a cookbook with recipes and recipes for success from the coolest, smartest, most inspiring women I knew, and so I reached out to Madison. She so wonderfully shared her family’s marinara sauce recipe…

And as that vision has evolved to share these recipes and recipes for success with more than just Charlie, I couldn’t help but to share Madison’s and Madison’s Marinara because the only thing that comes close to being as fabulous as Madison, is the Ruggieri Family Marinara Sauce! So without further ado, here it is! Madison’s Marinara.

Yields: 4 servings

Cook Time: ~2 hrs (but you don’t have to watch it the whole time <3)

What you need

  • 2 28 oz cans crushed tomatoes

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 1/2 yellow onion minced

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 3 tbsp chopped parsley

  • 3 tbsp chopped basil

  • 1 tbsp chopped oregano

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1 tbsp black pepper

  • 5 oz chopped carrots

  • 2  bay leaves

  • 1 tsp baking soda (hold until the end)

Making the Marinara

  • Add olive oil to large pot on medium heat. Add garlic, onion, carrots and cook about 5 min until soft and translucent.

  • Add crushed tomatoes and the rest of ingredients.

  • Cook 2-3 hours on low heat while stirring occasionally.

  • Add baking soda to warm sauce and stir until it stops bubbling (this cuts the acidity).

Enjoy!

  • This sauce is best served over your favorite pasta…

  • And a side of inspiration from listening to Madison’s episode of PM School, where we dive into how in 2010 she and her brother set out to change the men’s skincare industry by creating a luxury line of products that was priced above what was traditionally being done in men’s skincare, and how doing so led to the discovery that women were spending on average twice as much than men on products that didn’t tout better ingredients or efficacy, but in many cases were the same quality, just at a higher price point. This is why they built Onekind, a beauty brand dedicated to fighting the pink tax (aka that arbitrary amount of money added to products just because they’re made for women) and doing so in a way that provides amazing skincare products to consumers that are clean, work as well as top of the line luxury skincare and are built by and for the customer from day one. Madison is so inspiring, and practical when it comes to business, OneKind at the time had primarily boot-strapped the brand to a multi-million dollar business, and they’re still absolutely crushing it.
