October 2024
October was a month filled with fall flare! And it flew by in the blink of an eye. October was one that felt like living my vision board every single weekend — from going to the pumpkin patch, to drinking wine at one of my favorite local wineries with a bestie while our daughters ran around and played, to celebrating many of my besties — a wedding, a baby shower, and multiple birthdays — every weekend was filled with plans, and laughter.
What I’ve been thinking about / listening to this month:
I’ve continued to think about how to define “A successful life”. Inspired by this podcast episode, you’re encouraged to think about “What does a successful life look like in our household?” and then come up with ways to instill that ethos in your kid, so they don’t feel the wrath of the toxic achievement culture that is plaguing today’s youth.
^ I’ve started writing about this topic, and one of the ideas I am playing with is the juxtaposition between the “success treadmill” versus “the path to success.” I think I’ll be sharing something along these lines in November.
What I did this month:
We celebrated one of my best friend’s weddings, and got to enjoy checking out The Deer Path Inn as a result. If you’re a Chicago girlie that’s had Kohler, WI on your bucket list, or you’ve been to Kohler and loved it, then I highly recommend you check this place out. The food is fabulous, the vibes are cozy and luxurious, and the service is fantastic. Congratulations, Kasia and Trace!
I also got to celebrate my bestie, Tasha, as she made another trip around the sun, we spent the day at Aire for her birthday! Which was quite fabulous, albeit, they are so busy these days that we both felt the service was not as expected given the price tag for the experience.
As the month came to an end, we got to take Charlie on her first plane trip to NYC for a quick weekender with my family for my brother’s birthday! We had the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life at Hatsuhana in Midtown (you will need a reservation), and that was followed the next day by a fabulous surf and turf dinner at Son Steakeasy in Greenwich Village. Charlie LOVED Times Square, got to see Bryant Park all decorated for Christmas.
Last but not least, we wrapped October with Charlie’s first Halloween! She went as a little cow, and Ronnie and I went as a Cowgirl and Cowboy!
What I watched/read this month:
Martha Stewart documentary was so good. What a life that woman has lived!
Ina Garten’s new memoir was equally interesting.
^ it’s kind of wild that these two women have had such similar careers, and in such similar areas (NY/The Hamptons) but their approach to career was dramatically different. It makes you think, if you can be successful in your career regardless, what is the approach you want to be known for. Good food for thought, no pun intended.
Delightful Discoveries from this month:
Hi, I am brand new, and many of you have already had this discovery, but I got to go into Mango for the first time in NYC and really liked the store and the experience. I like that it is like “higher quality than Zara, but less costly that Aritzia” in the words of my SIL, Claire.
What I made this month:
To be honest, there was not a ton of time for cooking this month, which made me so sad! But, the lack of cooking was met with a multitude of meals from spots like Goop Kitchen’s The goop Teriyaki Bowl, Currito’s Bangkok Bowl, and Poke Bros Duke Poke Bowl.
I’ve done my own Poke Bowl Recipe here.
Stay tuned for variations of Goop Kitchen’s bowl and Currito’s bowl!
What I am looking forward to in November:
There is sooooo much to look forward to in November, one of my favorite months of the year!
Our 6th Wedding Anniversary!
One of my best friends made a film, and it’s premier is at the beginning of November!
Lauren (Allowlist) and I are heading to Giggly Squad live!
I’m headed to Austin for a work trip, but one of the things we’re doing as a team while we’re down there is heading to Rogan’s comedy club, Comedy Mothership.
Then we’re heading to New Buffalo for two consecutive weekends (yay!) one for Friendsgiving with our besties Dave and Tess and their kids, the next for real Thanksgiving with Ronnie’s family. This is the first year I won’t see any of my family members on Thanksgiving, which is honestly kind of wild, but I guess I am that age now, with a family of my own, so here goes!
Wicked!!!! Is coming to theaters. Weeeee! I am so, so, so excited.
I hope you too are looking forward to all the gratitudes that November has to bring!
