Trusting the Timing of Your Life — Sarah Jahnke

You know when you see what someone is up to and you think to yourself… “I have to know that person?” That’s about how I felt when I discovered what Sarah Jahnke was building over at Homecourt alongside her Co-Founder, Courteney Cox. Yes, Monica from Friends.

We sat down with her on the pod a while back and I was really inspired by something she said about trusting the timing of your life.

We were talking about her work at L’Oreal and how bummed she was that she was assigned to a fragrance division of the company, as opposed to one of the more core beauty brands that you know and love from L’Oreal. She’d decided that the only way to elevate her career to the core businesses at L’Oreal would be to do her MBA, and it was through that program, she got connected to a network of investors whom allocated capital in the consumer space, and to the Family Office behind Homecourt. They were in the process of recruiting a Co-Founder/Operator to work alongside Courteney, as she brought her idea for a fragrance company to life… and Sarah was exactly what they were looking for.

Is Homecourt a fragrance company to this day? Not really. But was Sarah’s work in fragrance (yes, the exact business she was trying to get out of at L’Oreal) one of the big reasons why she was handpicked to co-found this company? Why, yes, yes it was!

Sarah’s story reminded me of the adage “the dots will always connect when you look back” and also reminded me of something I read recently in Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life, and that’s this: Impatience is a form of resistance — resistance to the universe’s higher power and plans for our lives.

It’s so often that we find ourselves wanting everything, all at once, all right now.

We want the big dream to be fully manifest, in our life, right now… Sarah did, that’s for sure! She wanted the big beauty job in the core divisions of L’Oreal, but the universe had a different plan for her. The universe wanted to give her the experience in the fragrance division of the business, so it could bring her the opportunity with Courteney when the time was right. And then, all of a sudden, the time was right.

The lesson here?

Trust the timing of your life. Say to yourself “I am willing to release the need to force the timing of my life. I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.” If you’re reading this, I guarantee you are one of those people who has big ideas, big dreams, and big plans. Good! Hold those in your minds eye.

AND AT THE SAME TIME hold this too:

“I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing.”

I hope if you’re reading this, this gives you the peace you needed today. Sometimes I need this reminder too — “Hey lady! Slow the F down and trust the timing.”

You got this :)

Did you enjoy Sarah’s recipe for success? Then you will probably love her favorite dish, inspired by her go-to spot in Venice, CA where she lives and runs Homecourt.
